The Majesty of The Grand Canyon

1 Chronicles 29: 11

Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours.
Yours, Lord, is the Kingdom; you are exalted over all.

Last summer, my daughter and I spent three days rafting in The Grand Canyon and sleeping under the starry skies at night.  To say it was amazing is an understatement.  Here's a little bit of what I wrote about that trip on www.mythirdact.com:

"During these days on the river I was in awe of creation, but that shooting star reminded me to think of the Creator.  And Praise Him, and thank Him… for the night sky and the shooting star, for the majesty of the Grand Canyon for this precious time with my daughter…for all of Creation in all of
it's perfection.
I am humbled and privileged to be a part of it."

Psalm 23 - He leads me beside still waters

Psalm 23: 1-3

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.
He leads me in the path of righteousness for His name's sake.

This is one of my favorite paths for my morning walk.  Whenever I am here, The 23rd Psalm always comes to mind.   Probably one of the best known and most loved Psalms of all time.  Each time I hear it, it has such significance and my heart settles into a special place of peace and joy!

I have tried to paint it several times, but I always come up short (including this one, but I wanted to share it anyway) I guess nothing can measure up to the real thing!

Jesus said "Follow Me"

Luke 5:11

Then Jesus said to Simon, "Don't be afraid; from now on you will fish for people." So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.

I recently read "Twelve Ordinary Men" by John MacArthur.  It's a great book about the call and ministry of Jesus' apostles.  Twelve regular guys, people like you and me, from various walks of life, chosen to carry on the name of Jesus Christ.  Not the richest or smartest men in their community, and not the ones with celebrity status or best known.... just twelve guys who believed in Christ and were willing to walk away from their livelihoods, and their families to be His hands and His feet going forward.
So I must ask myself... I'm just an average person, leading a pretty ordinary life...what can I do to advance His Kingdom?

God, the original Artist

Psalm 121: 1-2

I will lift mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.
My help comes from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.

I am often closest to God when I am deep in His creation.
As we begin this season of Lent I am going to stretch out of my comfort zone and try to capture His majesty on earth through watercolor and share some of my favorite Bible verses.   I hope you'll join me in this journey!

Last fall my husband and I vacationed in Colorado and visited with friends near Aspen.  One day, I shot this view of the Maroon Bells in the Elk Mountains and have been anxious to paint it ever since.

A blast from my past

Keeping with the two recent "blasts from my past" homes from my childhood... My brother Doug sent me this the other day.... he was cleaning out an old trailer on his property and stumbled on this sketch I did my senior year of High School!  It was dated 9/5/1971 and was covered with bugs and spiderwebs.

Exactly (!) two years later I wrote this "letter home" during college about the idea of doing sketches as a little side business...

I especially love the last line... "I wonder if I'll ever get around to doing it!"  It only took me 40+ years but I finally found the time!!!

Stay tuned next week to see what's new in the works at Accents in Art!
